In the middle of July 2025, DSTRESSR along with nine other up-and-coming Columbus-based artists became the third inaugural class of the Music Columbus 'Better Together Music Incubator' program. An intensive five month long artist development program providing studio time, music-business education, production and graphic development, and a professional photo-shoot. Today we're highlighting our time with photographer Dan Mitchell of Mitchell Multimedia and an exclusive behind the scenes look of the shoot!

DSTRESSR’s recent photoshoot with Mitchell Multimedia captured the band in a visual atmosphere as bold and eclectic as their upcoming EP, "Loud Thoughts." The collaboration was designed not just to promote the release but to translate the band’s sonic identity into a compelling visual language. DSTRESSR’s sound, a blend of progressive atmospheric rock infused with psychedelic and electronic elements translates naturally into bold, yet calming experimental visuals. In many ways, their music already paints pictures like swelling synth textures akin to floating color fields, spiraling guitar lines rippling like waves, and shifting rhythmic patterns that mimic pulses of light. The band’s sonic identity thrives at the intersection of grounded rock instrumentation and surreal, mind-bending ambiance, making the visual language surrounding them just as important as the music itself. I feel this session brought out our energy into a sharply focus developing into a style of their collectivism.

A standout feature of the shoot was the custom prism-light rig engineered by Max himself—an inventive setup that refracts beams of light across the musicians as they performed for the camera. These shifting fragments created a sense of temporal motion, echoing the band's themes of mental noise, internal tension, and clarity breaking through distortion. Mitchell Multimedia leaned into the fleeting, holographic quality, capturing images that feel like the band’s active immersive sound.

Outside, the mood shifted as the DSTRESSR took to a field of mirrors arranged for the second half of the shoot. The reflective surfaces fractured and reassembled their images, symbolizing the self-examination and introspection prevelant in the band's work.
The collection of mirrors, each unique of a time and place, are themselves a reflection of each member of DSTRESSR, a fleeting moment in time granted the opportunity to share this experience.

Together, the prism-lit studio moments and the contemplative mirror compositions tell a visual story of contrast—noise and stillness, distortion and reflection. As DSTRESSR gears up for the early-March release of their EP, these photos offer fans a glimpse into the layered world the band has created. If the images are any indication, the following releases by DSTRESSR promise to be both sonically and emotionally resonant, capturing the band at a moment of creative clarity and forward momentum.
